A big fat & full face in winter is a good thing 🙂 I am so really loving my chubby face these days and don’t mind some extra pounds that I have gained suddenly after I was sick for more or less than a month, many of you may think that I am being full of myself 🙂 and the fact is that yes, I am being bl—dy full of myself 🙂 it’s no one’s surprise that I have been devouring on lots of clarified butter (desi ghee), teas laced with herbs, spices & honey or coconut sugar, I love chocolates these days, an occasional soda pop, potatoes, chips, popcorn and whatever comes my way, not to mention I sit down shamelessly in front of TV most evenings with freshly toasted peanuts and warm jaggery and a mug of haldi doodh ( turmeric milk:) Just living to eat during this hardcore weather 🙂 Many people know me for my strict one meal a day rule mostly throughout the year, however not many know that I can be a hungry monster in winter 🙂🙂 or whenever I want to be 🙂
Anyways, the most important thing that I wanted to talk about was sleep or sleeping habits. Lately, I have come across some people at work and in personal life who talk too much about their sleep deprivation. Therefore, I decided to share this write up/ rant I just penned down in much haste and no filter 🙂 🙂 Lol 😂
One thing that I really really focus on is my sleep. I must sleep for at least seven hours a day at any cost. God forbid, if the world goes on fire, I will sleep through it, if Donald Trump wins another term, I will still sleep 🙂 🙂 I take it very personally when it comes to good night sleep. Like many of us out there, my work day starts at 5:00 a.m. most everyday:) 🙂and there won’t be a bigger fool than myself if I don’t care of my sleep pattern. A night of good sleep is a natural requirement of our body or/ and entitlement, it is rather a sense of responsibility, it is no less than a religious practice for me. Also, getting a good night sleep is not at all anyone else’s responsibility around a person. It is a very personal and necessary course of action.
Hey, we all have worries and stressors in our lives, however, that doesn’t and must not cost us a good night sleep.
I come across many women, young and middle aged middle-agedn continuously of sleeplessness, “Oh, I can’t sleep, my back hurts”. “Oh, I get so tired that I can’t sleep”. “I had a huge dinner and was too stuffed up to lie down comfortably”. “When I lie down I worry about my family, children’s education, bills, health, upcoming events and so forth that I can’t sleep”. “I get hot flashes all night, I think I have started my menopause”. This list is monotonously endless. This wining can go on and on for ever.
When people come up with all these reasons, mostly man made, they tend to cause themselves sleeplessness, all I want to ask them is how far is their cell phone when they are trying to sleep? Also, what difference does it make to anyone or anything circumstantial if they don’t sleep? Does staying up wide awake do any good to anyone associated to them? Does staying up resolve anything? What kind of a social service are we actually doing by staying up or tossing and turning in bed or by checking social media statuses all night long?
It literally boggles my mind when women half my age start work and they look like zombies, no will to iron the uniform, no proper hair, dull wit and slack first thing in the morning, so much so that I pity them and want to slap them silly at the same time 🙂
When life is haywire you must not focus on how it ought to be. Please don’t draw perimeters for others on how to behave with you during your low tide…for such thoughts only bring you spiralling down into unhappiness and sleep deprivation.
Rather focus on your little powers …family & friends who love you, strangers who appreciate your natural kind gestures and crazy riot of laughter, schedules that actually happen on time 🙂
I understand and respect from the bottom of my heart if someone can’t sleep due to anxiety or health issues. People have their respective journeys and I truly acknowledge and appreciate the daily fights they fight in order to keep up with a routine of life. Hats off to them!
However, one must try and try hard to convince oneself that life is too precious and in order to accomplish our daily do diligence one must stay calm and emphasis on one’s well being. Proper medication for certain conditions may help people who need them with due respect. Discussing everything with their health care professionals may nip many issues in the bud.
Reading a book can never ever be overrated, keep lights down, calming music helps a lot, having an early dinner so that the digestive system is somewhat at rest and chest is light, as far as I can look back in time, brushing teeth & flossing have always been great good night habits, showering before bedtime helps the body relax and one feels good about oneself with such bedtime regimes, massaging feet, temples, hands with an essential oil is also a gateway to good sleep, combing hair thoroughly before bedtime is my personal favourite, been born and brought up in India I have a habit to drink some water too right before I shut the lights out.
Please don’t worry about the whole entire world lying down in bed. It is like invading one’s own privacy and not fair to one’s personal space. Human body is a temple and it is an individual’s responsibility to keep it free of overflow of mental debris. Nothing is going to change and no one has ever benefitted from such an action. Go to bed thinking good thoughts about the times to come, thank oneself for being a trooper thus far, thank the universe for making us meet right people at the right time, thank the universe yet another time for providing us amenities that we thrive upon day in and day out, thank your loved ones. Don’t try to control it all by unnecessary thinking because that’s not how it works 🙂 🙂 life is too short and nights are even shorter when we have jobs to do, bills to pay and faces to feed 🙂 🙂 be thankful for the bed and clean pillow cases, I love the fragrance of fabric softener in the pillows 🙂 be thankful for all the beating hearts around you of the loved ones.
The secret to a good night sleep is the will to relax, the desire to live fit and one’s ability to let go of what one doesn’t have any control over.
Oh… why am I up at this hour of the night????
